Our lives are getting easier and simpler with the development of medicine and pharmacy. In the field of sex, Viagra has helped millions of men to reestablish their sex life. Of course, as the money involved became bigger, the interests of pharmaceutical companies and research facilities increased. So the research of sexuality moved from the fields of psychology, sociology and other humanistic sciences to the field of natural science. In many cases the reality is unfortunately such that science neglects the real human interests in favour of profit and there are quite a few indications that show this will happen in the field of sexuality as well.
After the huge success of Viagra (by the way, there are quite a few men that are not helped by Viagra, and Viagra does not touch upon the psychological and sociological function of men's sexuality) the focus was shifted to finding the mirculous cure for female sexual dysfunction, or in short FSD. Scientists cannot even agree if this illness actually exists. They also do not see eye to eye when it comes to the symptoms and if they are not misinterpreted symptoms of some other illness. In the meantime, the pharmaceutical industry is already eagerly looking for a big hit, which would ""help"" all those poor women.
Miraculous cures and non-existant sexual diseases constantly occur in mankind's history, even from the time of the first shamans. Rhinoceros horns, tiger paws, do not get me started on deer, snake oil, dried ""flowers"" of all sorts, teas, roots, we could go on all day. But if we can attribute these follies of history to mankind's ignorance, we cannot use the same excuse now. Not only are we finding cures for illnesses that do not exist, we also invent new diseases, so that we can cure them with a specific ""miracle"" cure.
It is hard to be oriented in a flood of information we are exposed to nowadays. Pharmacy and medicine enable a high life standard, but there is always a shadow of doubt if their intentions are pure and if the well-being of mankind is really their priority. This author remains sceptical.
