Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids are a bulk of tissue in the anal canal surrounded by muscular and elastic fibers. Many people wrongly assume that hemorrhoids are a sort of disease, abnormality, but they are actually present in all the people, irrespective of race, age and gender. Hemorrhoids are a normal part of the anal tissue and they function as a sort of door, which closes the anal entrance. They start causing trouble when they become painful, irritating and in case of blood in excrement.

What are the symptoms of hemorrhoids? Besides an unpleasant feeling in the rectum, pain occurs while excreting, the feeling that something hangs out of our rectum and the feeling of fullness in the buttocks. Blood in excrement is usually a sign of inner hemorrhoids and you notice blood on the toilet paper in case one of the hemorrhoids is torn or irritated. Doctors warn that light red blood is usually a sign of hemorrhoids and dark red blood usually signals the bleeding from a deeper part of the rectum, which is usually not the sign of hemorrhoids.

Anal fissures

Anal fissures are present around the anal opening. Anal fissures can be temporary, but if they last for more than six weeks, this is a sign of chronic pain. Symptoms are very similar to those of hemorrhoids, because the patient usually feels a burning and itching sensation as well as the presence of blood in the excrement. Blood most often occurs at the beginning of the problem while at the chronic stage the bleeding usually stops. Some people also feel an itching sensation on the skin surrounding the anus.

Colorectal cancer and polyps

cancer is the most dangerous possible reason for blood in excrement, which affects the organs of excretion and the surrounding tissues. This type of cancer can develop in the form of tumors on the large or small intestine as well as on the rectum. Benign tumors or, in other words, tumors that are not life-threatening, are called polyps. Malign tumors are cancerous and especially dangerous because they can spread on to other organs. Polyps can be removed during colonoscopy, which is the endoscopic examination of the colon.

It is very important that the tumors are removed in time, otherwise they can become cancerous. Most of the malign tumors develop from polyps, and some of them also spread to liver and kidneys. Besides blood in excrement, other frequent symptoms of colorectal cancer include: the changed habit of excretion (either more or less frequent), problems with excretion, diarrhea, the feeling that you still need to go to the toilet after the excretion, spams and pain.

If you notice blood in excrement, visit a doctor

Even though you only have hemorrhoids you cannot know this before the examination and besides, any postponing will only make the matters worse. Completely harmless polyps and hemorrhoids can develop into a cancer, but if there's nothing wrong the pain will disappear soon after your visit to the doctor.
