In some cultures and eras of human history oral sex used to be worshiped, while in other cultures it was considered to be dirty and forbidden. In ancient Rome fellatio was a big taboo, while the ancient China encouraged 
cunnilingus because of the conviction that it keeps people forever young. The reason for prohibition of oral sex of course lies in the fact that it is not meant for procreation, that it is humiliating to women, and because of the conviction that the sexual organs should not be taken into the mouth because they are dirty. This kind of thinking originates from the Christian countries, some African cultures and from the modern day Islam. It is surprising that fellatio was worshiped and regularly practiced by the Australian Aborigines, who are not considered to be very well-developed and modern people. If fellatio was performed by a man who had the same social status and reputation as the recipient, it was considered as degrading, but if a woman or a man from a lower social class performed it no one had anything against it. Modern European and American societies had perceived oral sex as a taboo for many years, but it was gradually softened by pornographic movies and some scientific research, which even started to encourage it. After the sexual revolution oral sex became a permanent and very popular sexual practice among younger as well as older couples.
