Sexuality Is No Longer What It Used to Be

Modern sexual revolution: women have sex with many men, people no longer abstain from sex before marriage, and they have sex everywhere except in bed!

Sex can realise several goals

Besides sexologists, sociologists deal with sexuality in many different ways. In the context of the theory of modern social changes that had an influence on changes to intimate life and thus also affected sex as an act, mention is often made of the so-called “pure sex”, an act where participants are reduced to a mechanical component in sex. There are interesting findings in this field by E. Laumann, who says that sex can serve as a means of achieving many goals. According to his opinion, for example, “relational sex” refers to sex as an expression of love and attachment between the partners who share intimacy and vulnerability, “recreational sex” refers to physical sex, sex as a pleasurable and thrilling sensation of sexual arousal, and as the last one, he speaks of “reproductive sex” which couples have in the hope of having a baby that they want to take care of.

Today people have sex everywhere except in bed!

No matter what are the reasons for having sex, they are a private thing of every individual, but at the same time, there’s considerable discussion about them in the public. Sexual revolution is carried out differently than in the mid 1960s; namely, the platform of these actions has changed. I don’t exaggerate if I say that “sex is everywhere except between two persons”. The environment is overflowed with sex. For a long time now, sex hasn’t been restricted to late-night porn films, but it appears in talk shows and generally in shows of the “infotainment” type, while TV commercials can also be very graphic in showing subjects and symbols of desire.

Today women have more sexual experiences

An open debate about sexual needs is of great importance –  the importance of freedom. It’s particularly invaluable for women and sexual minorities. For example, many sociologists have found that sex roles are much more variable as was considered, which contradicts the belief that homosexuality and heterosexuality are innate and biological features. Female sexuality emancipation also occurred, which is evident in the fact that today women are more relaxed in acquiring sexual experiences than they were in the past.

No more waiting before wedding

Liberalisation and democratisation of sex is shown in several aspects. Teenagers have greater sexual freedom and marriage isn’t a necessary condition to have sex and gain valuable experience. They are free of the limitations of marriage. This most probably leads to pleasure in sex life at mature age. And, among others, what have women gained from social changes? They got a mace in their hands, and they can perfect free access to men with sexual thrills and don’t have to enter into a marriage. “Sex and the City” is everywhere and is repeated constantly (which perhaps only reflects the reality or presents it to a certain group of women as an extremely attractive and worthwhile experience). We are in a process where a man is choosing, but a woman chooses in the end.

Today you can practically have sex with anyone

Your sexual partner no longer has to be only your spouse or the partner with whom you are tied by love. He/she can also be a friend, stranger or somebody who you pay for sex. It seems that sex is more and more “physical”. Sexual act as such is important, particularly the climax – everything revolves around it, which can make sex very traumatic. Data show that most people who have regular sex are in a relationship. At the same time, increasingly more people are single because of the tempo in the present time. A lot of single people don’t want to take risks to fail, so they don’t even try to find a (sexual) partner. They rather direct their energy towards work or another type of relations (e.g. they devote all attention to their children).

With loss of traditional guidelines, relational sex has become a complicated and emotionally demanding process. Therefore, two alternatives can be noticed in an individual’s sex life: sexual abstinence and relational minimalism or mechanical sex.
