Polyamory is a hybrid term from the words poly and amor, which in English literally means many or several loves. The term indicates a type of a relationship which includes more than two people. It differs from polygamy in that it does not necessarily mean the marriage of one man to several women or vice versa and that it is primarily an agreement. Significant and revolutionary emphasis is made on the clear relation between relationships. The community consists of people who decide by themselves for life that includes a larger number of partners. Some couples are married and others are not, some people live as if they were practising free sex life and other do it. Does this seem immoral to you - a pretext for uncontrolled orgasmic group debauchery?

The truth is far from it. To establish such a polyamorous relationship, people have to be mature adults who are tolerant, understanding and courageous. Polyamory is based on the following values – fidelity, observance of rules, honesty, respect, mutual understanding, communication, negotiations and, in particular, non-possessiveness. The list of these values is almost identical as in monogamy. It is the last of the values on the list that is essential. Possessiveness is the weakness of every love and relationship. The hardest thing for a person is not to take the partner for granted and to give freedom to the partner as well as unconditional love. Unselfish love is the first condition of a polyamorous community. These people are primarily pragmatics.

The life in such a "community" has numerous advantages, although most of them are defined by law. In case of a quarrel they can always ask for the second opinion or appoint a mediator. More family members provide greater emotional support, different practical skills and consequently a more diverse life. In taking care of children, parents can share the burden with other family members. Living expenses are drastically reduced and the financial stability increases, not to speak about sex. It is of course not necessary that in such a relationship everyone sleeps together. This is actually very rare. Similar to monogamous relationships, polyamorous relationships are also not based on sex appeal but on the closeness of the people who simply love each other and want to live together.
