How has Japanese understanding of sexuality changed over time? Japan seems to be quite an interesting country also in this respect.

The Japanese are a very special nation. Everyone who's interested in their culture and art knows that, and everyone who watches their porn and hentai production knows that too. With regard to their attitudes towards sexuality, one is likely to infer that liberation from tradition has triggered sexual revolution and that the Japanese love sex. However, facts seem to show a completely different picture.

The Japanese don't like to marry, or they marry late. The number of weddings per year has decreased, and over 50% of women aged between 20 and 30 are single. Nearly half of women aged between 35 and 54 have no intention to marry. Japanese couples have 1.32 children per year, which means that the structure of population will significantly change and age. In 2001, a research conducted by the leading condoms manufacturer in the world showed that the Japanese have sex very rarely, and they were ranked the last among 28 countries. On average, a Japanese has intercourse 36 times a year. The number of divorces has recently increased as well.

We all know why things are the way they are. Women and their awful emancipation are to blame. Men are turning into mama’s little boys. The problem is well known; enslavement of both sexes in the service of capital, no meaningful relationships, society's discomfort without any myths and rituals, sexual disorientation as a result of erasing traditional ways of assigning roles, and so forth. Japanese sexuality seeks new paths and the number of obscure sexual practices has therefore significantly increased: businessmen buying used women’s panties, prostitutes urinating on old men shivering with the excitement over a golden shower ...
