Exclusive interview: We enjoy having sex with animals!

We discussed zoophilia, a taboo issue which people usually treat with disgust, with a moderator of zoophiles' forum and one of its users. Exclusively for the readers of IntimateMedicine!

Zoophilia is the practice of sex between humans and animals so much hidden we could hardly even establish if it’s rare. We know and discuss it too little to be able to assess the people involved fairly and accurately. Usually strong disagreement and harsh judgments are expressed without any firm arguments, so I decided to find out more about this. In Slovenia, there is a forum which unites the zoophiles and the curious. I was curious too meet Thumbelina, the forum moderator. She looked like an ordinary woman, just like any other: she has a job, a teenage son and is about to marry soon. Her relaxed character and her curiosity, however, make her different from other mothers and wives: she has been experimenting and trying out different practices of sex that most people don’t even dream of. My second informer was able to shed light on the subject form the male perspective; K9boy is a married man with a successful career. I hoped for an interesting talk – and wasn’t disappointed.  

To begin with, I’d like to ask you some questions about the forum. What is its purpose? Who is in charge of it?

Thumbelina: The forum has been active since 2004 and has been moved several times (or its web address has been changed) for different reasons. Its purpose is in the first place to provide room for discussion about zoophilia to those who are interested in it, and present findings and experiences in this extreme, but very old practice of sex. Arranging to meet each other hasn’t been the purpose of our forum, but it would be nice to transfer out virtual debates to real life, to face-to-face communication. As far as I know, such meetings are rare and are organized by individuals anonymously. This is, I guess, completely understandable, since zoophilia still disgusts society in general. The forum is run by voluntary moderators who also provide the financial means for its activity.    

There are some very strong stereotypes about zoophilia, for example, that zoophiles are mainly uneducated people from the countryside. How would you describe the users of the forum?  

Thumbelina: Up to this moment, 4200 users have registered; some hundred or more of them are active currently. Many of them register only to access the multimedia contents – pictures and video clips. It’s difficult to describe the average user since the Internet allows for many ways of manipulating with data. Anyway, if I focus on our active users, I can say that approximately 70 per cent of them are men. Educational structure is no different that the average, general educational structure. It is wrong to assume that these are poor, people from lower from the countryside. Our users also prove that zoophiles are by no means asocial people who are not capable of having relationships with other people or having a permanent partner. Having sex with animals is simply a means of spicing up their sex life. Some buy dildos, others prefer dogs.

Is there something like the most common fantasy among zoophiles? In other words, is there an animal that appears most often in people’s fantasies?  

Thumbelina: Generally, men and women differ in their fantasies, but these differences usually complement each other. The most common animals are dogs, probably due to their presence in human lives as “men’s best friends”. In women’s fantasies, a dog is present as an active participant, while men would rather only watch and stay passive. In fact, men’s presence or another person’s presence is highly advisable for safety reasons – if any help or intervention is needed. Horses are also common fantasies, although I’d never even think of an intercourse with horse as they’re extremely wild and uncontrollable when they mate. Clips you may have come across on the Internet were shot as a consequence of intoxication. I do not wish to have sex with intoxicated animals and neither do other zoophiles. This is against our principles.

What are these principles? What is zoophila anyway? And what is zoophile’s relation to animals?

Thumbelina: Zoophilia is love for animals which includes sexual contacts between humans and animals. Both definitions exclude violence against animals and zoophilia should not be confused with cruelty or abuse of animals. A true zoophile will never hurt his/her animal. S/he will also never “lend” it to other people who would use it to fulfill their fantasies but rather take care of it better that anyone else. Bestialists, on the other hand, do not love their animals, but rather abuse and sometimes even kill them during their practices. A zoophile will never have sex with a sexually immature animal and won’t ever train an animal to provide him/her with sexual pleasure because, in our opinion, animals are not sexual slaves at our disposal. On the contrary, a relationship of trust without any attempts at violence and abuse should be established between humans and animals. I have a dog with which I’d like to fulfill my fantasies, but it won’t cooperate. There are several explanations for its behavior, but I do not consider them important. What is important and relevant is not forcing the animal into something it doesn’t want to do.    
 

Zoophilia is not accepted in society, there is a wide range of moral and ethical objections raised against it. What is its legal status in Slovenia? Is zoophilia legal or is it prohibited and punished?  

Thumbelina: Torturing and sexual abuse of animals is against the law in Slovenia. In the past, several people were fined or convicted of animal abuse on the basis of penal code and the animal protection act. Evidence which lead to conviction was never –not even in a single case- possible sexual intercourse with the animal but rather rough and cruel treatment or torture. We have been reported to the VURS (Veterinary Administration of Republic of Slovenia) and to the police several times, but as far as I know no evidence of torture or sexual abuse of animals has been found on our website. I do not consider it fair to compare sex with sheep which causes the animal to die eventually, to a dog mounting a woman.  

People disapprove of zoophilia because it’s considered to be painful for an animal. Is intercourse with an animal torture?  

Thumbelina: No, intercourse with an animal does not presuppose torturing. Sexual abuse and sexual intercourse differ enormously – as they do when it comes to humans. Humans can be violent or gentle when having sex with either human beings or animals. Intoxication and abuse of animals in order to make pornographic material is considered animal torture. Sexual abuse of animals does happen but in such cases we cannot talk of zoophilia. A voluntary sexual act and a forced one should be distinguished between. It is very improbable that a woman could rape a dog. Opinions among zoophiles about what is allowed and what isn’t differ, but I think that intercourse between a woman and an animal cannot harm the animal in any way. Men’s part in sex with animals, as I see it, should be predominantly passive, although both sexes of animal are supposed to be capable of defending themselves in case they didn’t like the practice. Domestic animals are very obedient and docile and a greater responsibility and awareness are needed. To build up a relationship with an animal, we must know it very well and must observe its expressions of moods carefully. When a person is insensitive to an animal’s mood, problems occur.

K9boy: I agree. Animals are sexual beings and enjoy having sex as much as human beings do. They can show if they don’t like it, just like humans. Moreover, they are not hypocritical and can’t pretend.  

Is sexual intercourse between a human being and an animal dangerous, risky?

Thumbelina: Every intercourse is potentially dangerous if done in an inappropriate way. Sex with an animal is potentially risky when humans aren’t prepared to “listen” to the animals and force them into sex. Though domesticated, animals are still animals, one shouldn’t forget that. On the other hand, the risk is reduced to a minimum: humans cannot conceive with animals, and can’t get any STDs.

K9boy: It’s very important to have sex with an animal that we know well and that the trust is mutual.

When and how did you first come into contact with zoophilia?

Thumbelina: When I was 18, I came across a book about sex in which zoophilia was mentioned and it immediately attracted my attention. Then I started a family and forgot about it for a long time until I accidentally came across it again and at that time became deeply engaged, I pored over books about zoophilia. A wish was simultaneously growing inside me – to try it myself.  

K9boy: With me, it happened a little earlier, when I was 12 or 13. I was spending some time at my grandma’s farm and that was the first time I saw sexual intercourse between animals. Our family never discussed sex and sexuality – we didn’t even mention it, it was taboo, so I didn’t have any information, not even the basics, about what sex was like. I was attracted by animal sex because it was so spontaneous and “simple” – in contrast with the attitudes of people around me. My hormones started to work and suddenly, I wanted to be a part of that sex life. I started touching animal vaginas and soon wished for more. My first sexual contact was with a cow which appeared to me as most appropriate. It seemed a very natural way of discovering sex life.  

Later, of course, I got involved in sex with women and there was a period in my life when zoophilia (at least not actively) was not a part of it. 10 years ago I came across some pictures and clips which brought it back, but it was slightly different this time. I wasn’t seeing myself as taking part in the intercourse; I was rather aroused by watching sexual contacts between animals and women, especially dogs and women. On the Internet, I met some people who wished for the same and we realized our fantasies.
