Human sexuality is a complicated concept. Do you think you are familiar with it? Find out in the article.

When it comes to different forms of human sexuality, there are no boundaries.

The experts are still not sure what defines human sexuality. It seems that the closest answer is that it is a consequence of various factors, for example biological predispositions and social as well as cultural influences. Read about the most generally accepted forms of human sexuality in the article.

Heterosexuality: Sexual attraction to the opposite sex

The most general definition of heterosexuality is, that it defines sexuality and intimacy between two persons of the opposite sex, a biological male and a biological female. Therefore, between two persons born with male or female genitalia and chromosomic structure. But this is not always the case, because some transsexual persons are also heterosexually orientated. In this case, we are talking about intimacy and sexuality between a transman (who was born as a biological woman) and a heterosexually orientated biological woman. Therefore, the concept of heterosexuality is not as simple as it appears to be.

Homosexuality: Sexual attraction to the same sex

The other well-known form of human sexuality is homosexuality, which denotes intimacy between two persons of the same biological sex. The American Psychiatrist Association removed homosexuality from the list of mental diseases in 1973, while the WH0 waited until 1990.

Bisexuality: Sexual attraction to both sexes

Some individuals feel attraction to both sexes. They have intimate relations with both sexes, either with persons of heterosexual or homosexual orientation.

Asexuality: No sexual desire or lack of sexual desire

Asexual individuals feel no sexual desire towards any sex. Reasons for asexuality are different, for example hormonal imbalance, psychological hindrances or bad sexual experiences from the past.

Demisexuality: Emotional attraction

Demisexuality is a term, launched by the asexual community, describing a sort of in between state between sexuality and asexuality. Demisexual persons feel no physical attraction based on body image or gender. Their sexual attraction is mostly or exclusively based on emotional intimacy.

Pansexuality: Sexual attraction irrelevant of biological sex or social role

Biological sex is what we are born with, and the social gender is what we perceive ourselves to be. The connection is usually clear and the person in a male body feels like a man, but the roles can be turned as well, and a person in a female body can feel like a man. Pansexuality is used to describe individuals who feel sexual attraction irrelevant of the biological sex or social gender. They are attracted to persons of all sexes and sexual identities. The term is connected to bisexuality but it is perhaps more inclusive.

Human sexuality is therefore a complicated concept and it is hard to say what is right or normal. Behavior, to which two adult persons give their consent should be OK, because it causes no harm to anyone and it is, after all, nobody's business.

A Hollywood trend is also on the rise - flexisexuality!
