Research about sexual habits
The most recent research which was conducted by the University of Indiana and included six thousand people, offered an inside look into the current sexual habits of Americans. The research focused on sexual behavior, frequency of using a condom and taking care of sexual health. It is the biggest and the most encompassing research of such kind in the USA, which included people from 14 to 90 years of age. The first such research in the USA was conducted 60 years ago by the renowned sexologist Alfred Kinsey. Many researches followed since and the authors of this research agree it is necessary to keep track of the changes in people's behavior, make notes and inform the public about them. Contrary to the Kinsey's methods, this research was more quantitative than qualitative, because it didn't include in-depth conversations and interviews, but it used a method of a questionnaire with more or less closed type of questions.
Findings about the use of condoms:
- Use of condoms is twice as often with casual intercourse than among partners in a serious relationship.
- Adults over 40 years of age use condoms the least frequently during intercourse and the use of condoms is the highest among teenagers, from 14 to 17 years of age.
- Level of arousal among adults who use condoms during intercourse is equal to those couples who don't use them.
Findings about sexual behavior
Vaginal intercourse is still the most frequent form of sexual intercourse, but mutual masturbation and oral intercourse is also quite frequent. Most youngsters from 14 to 15 years of age had no experience with mutual masturbation.
Findings about orgasm:
- 85 percent of men claimed that their partner reached an orgasm during their last sexual intercourse, but only 64 percent of women claimed they reached an orgasm during last sexual intercourse. Are fake orgasms to blame for the difference in percentages?
- The results showed that men most often experience an orgasm during vaginal intercourse, while diversity prevailed with women and they can experience orgasm during giving oral intercourse, receiving oral intercourse, vaginal intercourse or anal intercourse.
Findings about anal intercourse:
- 21 percent of women, from 25 to 39 years of age, practiced anal intercourse in the previous year, while girls from 18 to 19 years of age experienced it at least once.
Same-sex intercourse:
- 15 percent of women confessed to having oral intercourse with a woman and 13 percent of men, older than 40 years, gave oral intercourse to a man.
