The Simpsons cartoon is child pornography’
That was the decision of an Australian Supreme Court. The owner of the infamous cartoon was heavily fined.
The main question in the courtroom was if the Simpsons characters represent real people.
Bart and Lisa in a sexual scene
The imitation of the famous The Simpsons cartoon which depicts two members of the family, Bart and Lisa, engaged in sexual activity, has been marked as child pornography. The sexual scene supposedly also involves the youngest member of the family, Maggie. Supreme Court judge Michael Adams judged that the child characters in the cartoon depict real people and therefore the matter is definitely controversial in the eyes of the law. The owner from Sydney was charged with owning child pornography when this aforementioned internet material was discovered on his computer. Alan John McEwan was fined 1,300 Australian dollars and the court also gave him a sentence of two years of good behaviour. In case the scene had depicted real children, Alan would have definitely had to serve a long prison sentence.

Do the Simpsons represent people or not?
Besides the moral question, there was one other question being debated about in the courtroom. It was whether the Simpson family represents a human family at all? Are the characters in the cartoon a representation of humans or not? How can we perceive them? McEwan has already filed a complaint where he is allegedly relying on the fact that the Simpsons aren’t an imitation of humans, but judge Adams feels otherwise. He said that despite the fact they have four fingers on their hands and their faces are shaped differently than human faces, we can still consider and treat them as humans. He is convinced the sentence was just because the law rejects and condemns the production of similar material and inhibits the need for such cartoons, which contain child abuse.
