The Essence of Human Attraction
Have you ever asked yourself what creates sexual attraction between two people and why are we drawn to a specific person? Let us try to unravel the mysteries of human attraction.
Why are we attracted to a particular person? (jlp)
It all comes down to pheromones! These are chemical substances in the brain and body that affect other biological factors beside human attraction.
What does the research show?
Most of the tests have been performed on animals, particularly insects, and this does not sound promising as regards human attraction, but with new technology the measuring of the effects of hormones has been slowly brought into the field of human society as well.
The research from the 1980s, conducted by a psychology professor at the University of Chicago, Marta McClintock, revealed some interesting findings. Pheromones helped those women who lived together to synchronise their ovulation and menstruation.
Pheromones are believed to play an important role in our lives. (jlp)
The latest research shows that men’s testosterone levels rise if they are exposed to ovulation excretions, and this may be a clue to the essence of human attraction.
A psychologist from the University of Vienna, Astrid Juette, conducted a research where she showed how men differentiate between women in various periods of the menstrual cycle.
Is the power of pheromones merely a myth or a scientific truth? (jlp)
Doubts of scientists
Despite the results of the research, some scientists are still sceptical about various discoveries of the effects of pheromones. They agree that the human system of smell takes scents from the nose to the limbic system, but they doubt for what purposes and in what ways we receive these smells.
At present it is thus not certain whether pheromones are wholly responsible for human attraction, and hopefully the answer will arrive with further research.
