Meet Kim

Sixteen year-old Kim Petras from Germany was born as a boy and named Tim. She started hormone therapy at 12 and is thus the youngest person to have been approved therapy with the purpose of a sex change. Kim said that she was very young when she felt like she was trapped in the wrong body. Psychiatrists are familiar with this phenomenon and have named it transsexualism or gender identity disorder (GID). Many people who suffer with similar feelings never seek professional help. After the start of the sex change therapy, Kim started a career in fashion designing and in modeling. She also started singing and writing her own songs. After publishing her songs on the Internet, she has already been offered a record deal.

A tough youth and a bright future

Kim told journalists that she had to deal with constant mocking and humiliation from the other children when she was young. Now, after the operation she had recently, she feels more liberated and can dress the way she chooses and can thus identify with her life as a girl more easily. Last year Kim started working as a model for a hairdressing salon which is branched out all over Germany. She hopes to be better known for her songs than her controversial operation one day. Her parents are also helping her, even though they admit it was hard to accept Tim’s condition at the start.
