How Does Intelligence Affect Sex Life?

For example, is there any connection between the degree of a person's intelligence and the time they lose their virginity?

A study which included several thousand teenagers aged between 13 and 18 showed that the most intelligent and the least intelligent children stay virgins the longest.

The teenage period is a period of growing up, when most people are preoccupied with themselves and their development. This is a heavy burden to bear that takes a lot of time and energy. A study conducted in the USA established that those who are either very intelligent or not intelligent at all are less inclined to have sex. High intelligence can therefore function as a kind of protection in teenage years. In boys, every further IQ point means 2.7% less chance of having sexual intercourse. In girls, this percentage is increased by 1.7%.

Another study, which focused on the student period, confirmed these conclusions. IQ can have an influence on the postponement of sex life all the way to adulthood. An average student loses virginity by the age of 20. If a student is more intelligent, this isn't the case. Only about 50% of students lose virginity in the period of their studies. Those who don't lose virginity are largely students of natural sciences. Decreased sexual activity is also shown in masturbation, which is especially low in women.

Sexual activity is also influenced by the goals that people have in life, which may be high and may require a lot of attention, so there isn't much time left for other things. Sex life does require effort and time that some people prefer to channel elsewhere.

Also, the absence of sexual desire and the absence of muscle mass indicates a lack of the hormone testosterone that presumably has an influence on the degree of intelligence. Sex appeal and intelligence sometimes don't go hand in hand.

Given that people often draw comparisons with animals, here is an interesting fact: research on bats shows an inverse proportion between the size of the bats' testicles and the size of their brain – the bigger the testicles, the smaller the brain.
