Dr. Rebekah Levine Coley of Boston College said: "What parents do with their adolescents really matters."

More family meals – less sexual partners

The research on teen sexual behaviour showed, that parents, who do not want their kids to succumb to deviant sexual behaviour, must make family time a priority! But not as a façade, but they must take care of the relationships among the family members!

Adolescents, coming from families where they had more family time together were more selective when it came to choosing their partner, and the percentage of risky sex was lower. (jlp)

The research lasted for three years and included 4950 US teens, 1058 of whom were siblings, aged between 12-16. The results of the research were made every year and interesting data was gathered.

Adolescents, coming from families where they had more family time together, more communication and a better understanding for growing pains, had less sexual partners, they had sex later, they were more selective when it came to choosing their partner, and the percentage of risky sex was lower. Of course, sexual behaviour of an individual depends on his character, so family does not always play the key role, but when it comes to our interpretation of love life it still has some influence.

These can be seen not only in adolescent’s sexual behaviour, but they are also shown in other areas, such as: low self-esteem, lack of confidence, destroyed system of values, bad interaction with people, etc., all of this creates a good foundation for promiscuous sexual life.

Parents, who behave in a cold and negative way towards their children and do not allow them to have the possibility of independent thought and decision making, destroy the harmony of relationships and create emotional emptiness in their adolescents – they, in turn, compensate it with sexual intercourse, being a substitute for love.
