A movie about a hermaphrodite: the documentary Claudette

This documentary shows us the life of a 69 year-old hermaphrodite and an activist for the rights of prostitutes.

Claudette is a hermaphrodite

This documentary, made by female director Sylvie Cachin, takes us into a really different world which opens up many questions, the answers to which we must find ourselves. The documentary only shows us what the questions that it would be wise to find the answers to are.

Claude(tte) is a hermaphrodite. Most people find this interesting. She’s also a prostitute and what might be most surprising to many and perhaps even incompatible and morally objectionable – a husband, father, grandfather, basically a family man. Claudette therefore binds things that seemingly can’t be bound in a unique way.

The road into prostitution

Her life story itself wrote the screenplay for the real movie. At 14, the girl started selling herself to male clients. Later, he had a life and family with a wife in Switzerland. The relationship ended when he experienced a financial disaster. That’s when he went back to prostitution and he’s still making a living from it nowadays.   

Her free time is spent on advocating certain matters. She is an avid advocate for legalization of prostitution and the position of prostitutes. This is definitely an interesting documentary worth checking out.
