Franc Planinšek, M.D., M.S.
Franc Planinšek was born on 29 April 1962 in Celje, where he finished the Grammar School in 1981. He continued with education at the Department of General Practice of the Ljubljana Faculty of Medicine. In 1985 he received the Student Plečnik Award and he graduated in 1988. After internship he was given employment by the Department of Plastic Surgery and Burns of the Ljubljana University Medical Centre in 1990. In 1994 he defended the master’s degree in the field of physiology of denerved blood vessels after replantation. In 1995 he passed the specialist exam in surgery and since then he has been an assistant at the Chair of Surgery of the Faculty of Medicine.
In his research work he studied the effects of nicotine on replanted and healthy fingers, the effects of endothelium of small blood vessels with respect to the formation of Prostacyclin PgI2 – adjustment after transplantation, the anatomical features of the internal mammary vein, and the changes to the formation of Cytokeratins and other histochemical markers in transplanted keratinocytes bred in a laboratory.
In 1995 and 1996 he collaborated with the Hepatobiliary School in Ljubljana. Within the postgraduate course in hepatology and hepatobiliary surgery, he organised a workshop titled Working with Small Experimental Animals (microsurgery for gastric surgeons) in 1995 and 1996.
He took several courses in Slovenia and abroad. In 1993 he participated in the European Course in Plastic Surgery in London. In 1994 he took an advanced course in osteosynthesis and he took the course in osteosynthesis for face and jaws in 1995. The same year he also did the course in stomach surgery. In 1997 he participated in the European Congress of Microsurgery in Berlin and in 1998 he took the course in aesthetic surgery in New York (Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital) and the Symposium on the sex changes in Barcelona.
In 1996 he spent a month in Brazil for professional training. In that time he visited three leading experts in the field of aesthetic surgery: Prof. A. R. Bozola in Sao Paulo and Prof. R. C. Vieira and Prof. I. Pitanguya in Rio de Janeiro.
He actively participated in several congresses in Slovenia and abroad.
Since 1996 he has been conducting the surgery seminar on the bases of surgical sewing techniques. He works as a plastic and aesthetic surgeon.
